USAV Rules:

  • Net serves are playable.
  • Each team can use a libero and 12 substitutions
  • Libero must wear a contrasting color uniform from rest of the team
  • Liberos can:
    • replace any player in a back row position
    • Libero may not act as the team captain
    • Libero replacements are not counted as regular substitutions
    • at beginning of game, Libero can replace a player after the line-up is checked
    • before the Libero can re-enter for a different player one rally has to be completed
    • time for re-entry is while the ball is out of play and before the whistle for service
    • the Libero can only be replaced by the player whom he replaced
    • exchange of Libero and player can only take place by sideline in front of their team bench between attack line and the end line
    • the Libero is restricted to perform as a back-row player
    • the Libero cannot complete an attack hit from anywhere if at moment of contact the ball is entirely above the top of the net
    • the Libero cannot serve, block or attempt a block
    • the Libero cannot hand set the ball on or in front of the attack line to a teammate that has completed an attack of the ball above the plane of the net- the Libero can hand set behind the attack line

  • Rules concerning boys competing in girls tournament in our region.
  • THIS RULE IS FOR SANCTIONED GREAT LAKES REGION TOURNAMENTS ONLY.
  • If you play out of Region the rule may be different or non-existent.
  • Boys 10 & under may compete with Girls 10 & over.
  • Boys 12 & under may compete with Girls 12 & over
  • Boys 13 & under may compete with Girls 13 & over
  • Boys 14 & under may compete with Girls 15 & over.

  • IIHSA Rule #3.102 (found on pg. 58) regarding High School athletes & Tryouts:
  • 3.102 Students may participate in a tryout for a non-school athletic team while a member of a high school team in the same sport, provided the tryout is exclusively a demonstration of skills with no practice or instruction involved. A student shall be considered to be a member of a school team when he/she engages in any team activity, including but not limited to tryouts, drills, physical practice sessions, team meetings, playing in a contest, etc., on or after the date specified in By-law 5.000 and its sub-sections.
